How to Shop on Amazon from Croatia and Nearby Countries
If you’re living in Croatia or the surrounding region and want to shop on Amazon, here’s a simple guide to help you get started, avoid common issues, and save money while doing it!
1. Creating an Account
Start by creating a free account on Amazon.de. The easiest way is to search “Amazon DE in English” to get the English version directly, or switch the language manually on the German site (top right corner).
2. Setting Your Delivery Address
Your address needs to be entered correctly because Amazon filters products based on where they can be shipped. Always use English when entering your address (avoid special characters like č, ć, š, etc.). The postal code and correct country name (e.g., Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina) are crucial for accurate delivery. This ensures you only see items that can actually be delivered to your location.
3. Filtering for Shippable Products
Once your address is saved, Amazon will automatically show products that can be delivered to you. You can also manually select the “Ship to Croatia” filter for extra clarity.
4. Payment Methods
Amazon accepts all major debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Revolut). PayPal is not supported.
Amazon also offers One-Click Payment, so it’s smart to enable two-factor authentication or log out after each purchase—especially if you have kids who might click something by accident. 😄
5. Shipping and Customs
When ordering from Amazon.de, most items come from within the EU, so no customs fees apply.
However, if a product is shipped from outside the EU (e.g., China or the US), Amazon calculates the customs fees automatically and adds them at checkout. You might notice a slightly higher final price than expected.
While it’s not ideal, it’s still much better than having to handle customs yourself, which can involve waiting in line at the post office and paying fees manually.
6. Tracking Your Package
After placing your order, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a tracking link. Amazon typically ships via DHL, UPS, or local delivery services like HP Express, GLS, or DPD.
💡 Tip: I highly recommend redirecting your parcel to a parcel locker (if available in your area). That way, you can avoid delivery delays and missed drop-offs.
7. Returns and Refunds
Amazon has a simple return system. Most items can be returned within 30 days for a full refund, and they often cover return shipping costs.
Just mark the item as a return in your account, and Amazon will send you a prepaid return label. Stick it on the box and take it to the post office.
⚠️ Important: Always save the tracking number from the courier that picks up the package in your country. Amazon uses two delivery systems (theirs and the local one), and once your local courier takes over, the original tracking number might disappear from your Amazon account.
You’ll often get it by email or see it in your tracking link—screenshot it, just in case.
Once Amazon receives the returned item, your refund will show up soon after.
8. Tips for Better Deals
Look out for sales events like Black Friday and Prime Day
Use coupon codes when available
